Camarillo Girl Scout Troop 65309, made up of 12 hardworking Junior Scouts ages 9 and 10, has shown that leadership, compassion and community spirit come in all sizes, turning their record-breaking cookie sales into hope for Mountain Fire survivors.

After crushing their cookie season goals with an impressive 4,000 boxes sold, these young girls had a decision to make. Instead of using all the proceeds for troop activities or trips, they chose to give back to their community in a meaningful way.

Young Leaders in Action

The girls decided to dedicate a portion of their cookie earnings to help families impacted by the devastating Mountain Fire. They used their funds to purchase essential supplies for fire survivors, carefully selecting items they knew would help families begin rebuilding their lives.

They wanted to show that even at 9 and 10 years old, they have the power to create real change.

“They wanted to show that even at 9 and 10 years old, they have the power to create real change,” their troop leader shared with obvious pride.

And honestly? We couldn’t agree more. These girls demonstrate what Girl Scouts is all about—courage, confidence, and character—showing that even a simple cookie sale can lead to something bigger: a community coming together to help one another.

The Girl Scout Legacy is Much More Than Cookies

Girls Scouts help Mountain Fire survivorsSince 1912, Girl Scouts has been quietly building the leaders of tomorrow, one badge at a time. What started as a simple idea has grown into something incredible where girls learn that their voices matter, their ideas have power, and their actions can change the world. More than just cookies and camping trips, Girl Scouts teaches critical life skills, encourages community service, and fosters a spirit of independence and confidence.

From Daisies taking their first steps in teamwork to Ambassadors tackling complex community projects for their Gold Award, every Girl Scout learns the same fundamental truth—you’re never too young to make a difference. Through a wide range of badge programs, outdoor adventures, STEM programs, and countless opportunities to serve others, the organization builds confidence that lasts a lifetime.

Troop 65309’s generous response to the Mountain Fire is just the latest chapter in this amazing legacy.

Remembering the Mountain Fire

The Mountain Fire struck the Camarillo area of Ventura County in November 2024, destroying 243 buildings and damaging dozens more while displacing thousands of residents. The fire started in the Somis area and was driven by strong winds that rapidly spread flames into Camarillo Heights and surrounding communities.

But the Mountain Fire couldn’t destroy our community’s heart. Stories like Troop 65309’s remind us that even in our darkest moments, hope shines through in the most unexpected ways.
