Ventura County's Support-Local Program

The Ventura County Ag Summit Comes to Town

The Ventura County Agricultural Summit brings together a diverse group of agricultural-related organizations to guide discussions, seminars and panels about ag-related topics.

Restaurants sourcing locally is not a trend – it’s a fundamental shift

A survey of American Culinary Federation chefs shows sustainability, local sourcing and nutrition are the top items on the minds of chefs.

While some may call it a trend, many believe eating local it is here to stay, as people look to reconnect with their food source. In a survey conducted by the Culinary Visions Panel, the top items chefs and consumers said they were looking for were more ways to locally source, know where there food came from and ensure sustainability.

Ventura Agricultural Summit brings together a diverse group of agricultural related organizations to guide discussions, seminars and panels about agriculture related topics. Topics this year include:

  • Water – The Resource, New Realities and Solutions
  • Distribution – Direct to the Consumer, Mid-tier to Large Scale
  • Positive Economic Impact – The Economic Impact Ventura County’s Agriculture has on the Country

This year’s theme is “We are Different,” highlighting Ventura County’s rich soil, Mediterranean climates, innovative farmers and diverse crops and to showcase how Ventura County agriculture helps feed the community and the world.

“Ventura County agriculture is an integral part of our economy and plays a vital role in feeding the world,” said Henry Gonzales, Ventura County’s Agricultural Commissioner. “This summit is a way to not only educated attendees of the importance that Ventura County agriculture plays, but also opens up the lines of communication between area farmers, Ag-related industries, educators and the general public.”

A percentage of the profits from the event will go to Treasure Our Farms. Treasure Our Farms is an education campaign designed to engage and inform our local community about the value and beauty of agriculture and farming in Ventura County.
